Rules of roulette - table and bet explanation

The Roulette game was invented in Europe in the 17th century, over 300 years ago, which makes it the oldest casino game still being played. For centuries the patrons of casinos the world over have been fascinated by this game. The Roulette wheel is divided into 37 segments on the 'French wheel' (or 'European Wheel') and 38 on the 'American wheel'. These are numbered 1-36 with a single zero on the French Roulette and a double zero on the American Roulette. The segments are colored red and black alternately, starting with the red number one. The zero and the double zero segments are both colored green. A ball is flicked in a clockwise direction around the outer rim of the Roulette wheel, which is spinning in a counterclockwise direction. The object of the game is to bet on the number on which the ball will eventually land. Numbers that match those on the wheel are arranged on the Roulette table in 3 columns of 12 numbers. Your stake is placed on the table and is considered either an outside bet or an inside bet. The Roulette ball is spun, and winnings are determined by the slot on the Roulette wheel where the ball makes a final stop. The amount of the payoff depends on how the bet was placed. The table is identical to those found in casinos around the world. The numbers are alternately colored red and black with "0" colored green. The player begins by clicking and placing chips on the desired areas on the table. Every betting option (either an Inside Bet or an Outside Bet) is highlighted when the mouse cursor is on it. Once the 'Spin' button has been pressed the wheel is spun and when the ball falls on a number - winnings are automatically added to your bankroll.

Inside Bets

Straight Up

You can bet on any number on the table (1-36, 0) by placing a chip on it. Winning bets are paid at 35 to 1. If the ball lands on the 0, all bets are lost with the exception of those straight bets placed on the 0.

Split (2 Number Bet)

A bet can be placed on two adjacent numbers by placing a chip on the line between them. If the ball lands on either number, you win. The odds are 17 to 1.

Street Bet or Row Bet (3 Number Bet)

A bet can be made on any three numbers in a row across the table by placing a chip on the outer line of that row. If the ball lands on any of the three numbers, you win the bet at 11 to 1.

Corner Bet

Betting on any four adjacent numbers is possible by placing the chip on the corner, where all four numbers meet. A winning bet is paid out at 8 to 1.

Six Number Bet

This bet is placed on the outside line, between two rows, covering six numbers. The bet is won if the ball lands on any of these six numbers. The payout is 5 to 1.

Neighbors

Some players like to bet on the neighbors, that is, a group of numbers clustered together on the wheel, for example 20, 14, 31, 9 and 22.

Outside Bets

Any Odd or Even Number

Bet on whether the ball will land on an odd or an even number. Winning bets are paid out at 1 to 1.

Any Red or Black Number

Bet on whether the ball will land on a red number or a black number. Winning bets are paid out at 1 to 1.

Low or High Number

Bet on whether the ball will land on a number between 1 and 18 or 19 to 36. Winning bets are paid out at 1 to 1.

Column Bet

This bet is placed at the end of any of the three columns of numbers. If the ball lands on any number within that column, you win. The odds are 2 to 1. 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12 Bet on whether the ball will land on a number between 1 and 12, 13 and 24, or 25 and 36. Winning bets are paid at 2 to 1. The more precise your guess is, the larger the payout will be. See chart below
